In this joyful collaborative piece, each student in our Year One class has added their unique touch to a shared vase of creativity. Every child designed their own pattern on the vase, reflecting their individual personality and imagination. Sprouting from the vase, each flower represents a student—bright, unique, and full of life. Together, they form a beautiful bouquet that celebrates our differences and the harmony we create when we grow together. "Petals of Us" is a tribute to community, creativity, and the colourful spirit of childhood.

2C has been studying the use of line and colour by a variety of famous artists. Our canvas of flowers in a vase was inspired by Kandinsky’s concentric circles, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Picasso’s Rose period.
Children in the class sponged the background and painted the vase and every child in 2C contributed their own flower to the beautiful bouquet.
We certainly think the children in 2C are a beautiful bunch.

We set out to create an artwork that someone would want to hang in their home. This inspired us to consider the notion of ‘home’. Where is home? What does home mean to you? Why does it feel like home? According to 2E, this is why their home feels like home.
“All my favourite things are there.”
“My family is there.”
“I sleep. I eat. I watch TV. I play.”
“I get to do super dooper dooper dooper fun stuff there.”
“I have things that I like to play with.”
“My home is great because I belong there.”

Our collaborative artwork was inspired by the bold, geometric street art of contemporary artist ThankYouX, who is known for transforming everyday spaces into vibrant expressions of colour and shape. His work often features cube-based patterns and striking contrasts, turning city walls into energetic celebrations of creativity.
Like ThankYouX, we were drawn to the joyful power of shape and colour. Each of us designed our own cube, using a variety of materials—crayon, pencil, marker, and acrylic paint—to express our individuality. As we worked, we explored the elements of art such as line, colour, and shape, discovering how these come together to create something exciting.
When our cubes were placed side by side, they formed a unified artwork that reflects more represents our classroom community. Each square is unique, just like each of us, but together they create one piece of art. This piece symbolises how we each bring our own story, energy, and creativity to our classroom, and how together, we form one amazing, beautiful class.

Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists of the twentieth century. Why? Because he was brilliant at drawing. People really loved his doodles. We especially took inspiration from his Cubist works of art. We loved how he has used colour and weird angles and shapes. How many faces can you see in out artwork?
Even as a child, Picasso was better at drawing than many adults. He could draw and paint just about anything, and in any style. He liked to experiment and try out new ideas, which is important if you are an artist, because the world is always changing. Picasso helped us see the world in new ways. We hope you enjoy “Picasso Features” by 5A.
