Welcome to the Braddock Bay Raptor Research Bird of Prey Days Online Auction!!

BBRR holds this annual event every spring to celebrate the migration and help people discover the wonderful world of raptors and Braddock Bay.  Funds raised from Bird of Prey Week programs and this auction directly support the research and education efforts of BBRR volunteers and staff throughout the year.

Your bid will help run our hawkwatch, pay for food for our resident raptors, purchase equipment for our banding program, and buy materials for our education programs.

Your support is greatly appreciated!

Braddock Bay Raptor Research (BBRR) is a 501(c)-3 non profit, volunteer based organization.

Founded in 1986, BBRR has been continuously working towards preserving the area’s natural resources by focusing research and education activities on the spectacular spring raptor migration, and summer natal dispersal. Research at Braddock Bay focuses on a range of topics important to conservation efforts, including the daily and seasonal distribution of raptors according to species, age and sex, and the behavior of raptors in migration. Educational programs are offered throughout the year and aim to expose people to the wonderful world of raptors through field experiences as well as off site visits.

Bluebird House (Light Entering Style)

Hand Crafted Bluebird House

Bluebirds seek tree cavities or woodpecker holes for nesting sites, which can be hard to find.

Competition for these limited sites is a huge problem and often old and rotting trees are removed.

A well-built and well-placed bluebird nest box in your backyard can help boost local populations.

This style has a hole on the top covered with plexiglass to allow light to enter, which may deter house sparrows from using.  Once Bluebirds nest/the weather gets warmer, the hole needs to be covered by the attached cover to prevent the nest from getting too hot.

For the Love of Birds: Visions and Meditations

Author: Marie Read

Wildlife photographer Marie Read and ornithologist/poet Pepper Trail combine their talents in a unique fusion of photography and verse that will surprise and delight readers, adding a new dimension to their understanding and appreciation of birds.  Visually lovely and spiritually serene, For the Love of Birds: Visions and Meditations offers a profound new perspective on these marvelous beings, the birds who share our fragile earth.

The New York Pigeon Behind the Feathers

Author: Andrew Garn

The New York Pigeon is a photography book that reveals the unexpected beauty of the omnipresent pigeon as if Vogue magazine devoted its pages to birds, rather than fashion models. In spite of pigeons' ubiquity in New York and other cities, we never really see them closely and know very little about their function in the urban ecosystem. This book brings to light the intriguing history, behavior and splendor of a bird that we frequently overlook.

Feathered Marvels Book

Feathered Marvels

Author: Dominic F. Sherony with Randi Minetor

From the discovery of the fossil Archaeopteryx to more than 10,000 different documented species today, birds have become the second most diversified class of vertebrates on Earth. Birds have evolved extensively since they first emerged in prehistoric times--but that diversity could dwindle and even vanish unless we take steps to conserve their habitats, ensuring that they sustain their numbers and their variety.

This natural history of birds starts in the distant past--going back to the Jurassic, Cretaceous and Paleogene periods--in order to get a broader understanding of the birds that we see today. Chapters cover their lives, breeding, flight, migration and more, while also highlighting some especially unique bird fossils, such as the Pelagornis Sandersi, which had a wingspan of more than 20 feet. Also included are chapters on the loss of needed habitats, the current decline of native birds, and what can be done to reverse it.

Stever's Candies Gift Card #1

$25 Gift Card to Stever's Candies

The Stever's have been making delicious confections for over half a century. Douglas Stever learned the art of candy making near Philadelphia after his service in World War II. In 1946, he and his wife Hilda opened their first small shop in Rochester at S. Goodman & Benton Street. Despite chocolate shortages and postwar sugar rationing, their pure chocolates and candies gained a loyal clientele, and business began to grow. At one point they were making candy and operating three Stever's shops in the Rochester area, Goodman Street, West Henrietta Road, and Park Avenue.

Great Horned Owl Silver Coin

2015 Canadian Great Horned Owl 1 oz Silver Coin

From the Royal Canadian Mint

Struck with one ounce of .9999 fine silver, this IRA approved coin is an ideal investment for silver stackers and nature enthusiasts. Like each design in the four-coin series, the Great Horned Owl has a limited mintage of 1,000,000.

The detailed reverse features a spread-winged owl with an intense glare; its sharp talons outstretched, reaching toward its prey. Emily Damstra’s design is surrounded by inscriptions of “CANADA,” “.9999” and “FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR.”

A symbol of both power and agility, the Great Horned Owl is Canada’s most familiar bird of prey. Its food source includes rats and mice, rabbits and other small rodents and mammals, but it has been known to hunt any animal it is capable of overpowering. The remarkable bird is also known for its ability to adapt to many climates.

The obverse carries a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, which is seen on each Birds of Prey coin. Along with Her Majesty’s name and the year, the coin’s denomination of $5 is also inscribed.
